Vintage Jesus is one of the two outreaches we have here at Christchurch for the 11-16 year olds (highschoolers). We had our first one last night! I have been so encouraged and affected by the way they embrace our call to evangelism. Over 75% of the kids who come, do not come to church on Sunday morning. Two of the boys' mom is a prostitute. One girl just went into foster care because her mom is addicted to cocaine. Lots of sad stories...but the way the church has responded is incredible!!! There are 4 buses that go out and PICK UP THE KIDS in their neighborhoods and drive them here, and bring them home. There's a huge "desk" where we sell sweets (I think I've learned their coin system now!) and as you can see...LOADS of amazingly fun things! After about an hour and 45 minutes, Dave Taylor, the executive pastor, got up and preached the gospel. It was incredible. The gospel is amazing. He didn't water it down, He was straight forward, and it was simple. Easy to understand. He did an excellent job. Then, Mike (our leader) and Gavin (the administrator) took a few minutes to share their testimonies. On my drive home with the kids, one of the girls said that Gav's speech sent shivers up her back. I thought that was so cool.
I met a girl named Zoey. Her grandfather passed away on Wednesday. She was upset in the bus so they asked a girl to come out and talk to her. She's in year 9. 13 years old. She was very cold at first and practically ignoring me. I just kept asking her questions about school and sports and her friends, and by the end she was smiling laughing and yelling, "Hi Janelle!" every time we passed each other. I also met her friend Katie. Please pray for these relationships!!!
Enjoy the pictures of us setting up and having a blast as we "work"! This morning we have Shockwave which is the same as VJ but for 6-11 year olds. Off to pray for that now!
